The swimming pool building in the Pilaitė district of Vilnius is an integral element of the overall public and sports complex. The conceptual solution of the building is oriented towards a convenient and clear visitor circulation scheme – the path from the main entrance from Gilužio Street to the swimming pool or the sports halls is clearly understandable and free of unnecessary obstacles.
The building plan is rationally divided into functional areas. The lobby, with its integrated health food bar, flows seamlessly into the shoe shine area, from which visitors enter separate changing areas (women’s, men’s, family and staff) leading directly to the pool area. The latter is divided into a children’s area, a main pool with 8 swimming lanes, and a spa area with a 24-seater massage pool, a range of saunas and relaxation areas.
On the second floor, two gyms are planned, which can be combined into a single space via a movable panel wall if required. The second floor can be accessed by both stairs and a lift, ensuring universal access for all visitors.
The architectural form of the building is stepped and expressive, reflecting the internal functional spaces and giving the quarter a dynamic and iconic character. The diagonal entrance volume and the prominent façades of the sports halls on the second floor give the building visual energy, verve and light.
Strategically located in an undeveloped part of the plot along Tolminkiemio Street, the pool becomes part of the formation of a new public space – Pine Avenue. This avenue is intended for pedestrian and cyclist movement and recreation, while maintaining and extending the existing connections and planting of the neighbourhood. The project urbanistically counterbalances the Vilnius St. John’s Church in the northern part of the project. The project is designed to be an architectural landmark that completes the structure of the Pilaitė social quarters.
